Your Rights as an IT Job Applicant

As a job applicant — especially in the IT sector — you have rights. At iStorm Projects, we believe in a transparent, respectful, and fair recruitment process for every freelance IT professional and consultant. Understanding your rights helps you feel more confident, better prepared, and fully in control of your application journey.
Below is a clear overview of what you may (and may not) be asked, how your data should be handled, and what you can expect from a professional recruitment process.
1. Do I have to answer personal questions?
No. You are not required to answer personal questions, and in principle, interviewers should not ask them. The line between acceptable and unacceptable questions can sometimes be blurry, so it’s up to you to decide how much you want to share.
If a question feels too personal, you can politely redirect the conversation back to your skills, experience, or motivation.
2. Can the interviewer look at my Facebook or private social media?
Legally, your private life should not influence the recruitment process. Recruiters should not evaluate you based on personal social media profiles.
However, it is difficult to prove whether someone has been influenced by what they see online. That’s why it’s wise to be mindful of what you make publicly visible.
3. Am I entitled to feedback after an interview?
Yes. You can request your file and ask for additional information about your application process. Contact your recruiter and ask which points could be improved or clarified.
Constructive feedback helps you grow — and you are entitled to it.
4. Can an employer refuse to hire me?
Yes. Employers are free to choose whom they hire. However, the selection must be:
- Objective
- Respectful
- Non‑discriminatory
All candidates must have had equal opportunities to be considered for the role.
